Testosterone Therapy for Men
Testosterone replacement therapy, the “hot new thing” for men, is neither hot nor new. Testosterone was discovered in the 1920s and has been given to men since the 1930s. Over the last 80 years, many studies have demonstrated testosterone’s safety and effectiveness.
According to the National Institutes of Health, low testosterone affects approximately 14 million men, almost half of whom are as young as 45 years old.
If you’ve been suffering from fatigue, weight gain, difficulty sleeping, decreased sex drive, or other symptoms of low testosterone, visit Dr. Fein at the North Dallas Wellness Center. He will help identify the cause and regulate the level of testosterone in your body.
What Causes Low Testosterone?
As part of the aging process, men experience a decrease in their testosterone levels beginning around age 30.
By the age of 50, natural testosterone production has often dropped to about half of early adult levels. And clinical studies have shown that neglecting low testosterone may increase the risk for heart attack, adult-onset diabetes, metabolic syndrome, osteoporosis, and weight gain.
Symptoms of low testosterone in men can develop slowly, over several years, and may include:
- Diminished sexual desire and performance (low libido)
- Erectile dysfunction (ED)
- Obesity
- Hair loss
- Decreased muscle mass and tone
- Sleep disturbances
- Fatigue and lack of motivation
- Depression, irritability, mood swings
- Loss of sense of well-being
How Does Testosterone Therapy Work?
Dr. David Fein offers testosterone therapy for men in the Dallas, Texas, area. Patients will undergo a complete examination and have an extensive hormone laboratory panel performed.
North Dallas Wellness Center offers three options for male testosterone therapy: 1) bio-identical testosterone pellets, which can provide a steady-state blood hormone level for 5 – 6 months; 2) weekly testosterone self-injections; or 3) daily bio-identical testosterone cream
Testosterone Pellets
Hormone pellets are subdermal implants made up of an organic soy or yam base.
Approximately the size of a Tic Tac, these pellets are typically placed through a tiny incision at the hip, below the waist. Once implanted, these pellets will slowly and consistently release testosterone over the course of 5 to 6 months. The pellets will naturally dissolve and do not need to be removed.
Benefits of using testosterone pellets for hormone therapy in men include:
- Increased energy and stamina
- Increased lean muscle and decreased body fat
- Increased libido and heightened performance
- Improved mood and sense of well-being
